22 Greenpeace Activists is now "Released"

It started when the Greenpeace activists started to protest against a Russian Energy Gazprom through an attempt of investigating an oil platform. In reaction, some employees of the oil rig attempted to burn the activists by fire hoses. The Russian authorities immediately began to hijacked the Arctic Sunrise ship and forced them to get jailed. They were initially charged with piracy but later the court decided to give them a lower charge called hooliganism. This describes an unlawful behavior such as rioting, bullying, and vandalism.

On November 22, four more activist were freed in addition to the existing 18 people who were earlier detained in Russia, St. Petersburg. The piracy violation will sentence the prisoner up to 15 years while hooliganism will have a shorter sentence of 7 years.

In my opinion, Greenpeace activists were on the side of reducing the effect of global warming. On the other hand, Energy Gazprom must find alternative ways to reduce the effect of environmental damages due from the nature of their operation which is oil.

What do you think?
